Silk is one of the most versatile fabrics and can be made into a variety of types many of which are perfect for wedding dresses.  Here are some of the types of silk that can be used to make a silk wedding dress.

Brushed silk this type of silk is produced by brushing the fabric in order to pull fabric from the yarn. This has the effect of creating a soft downy feel to fabric.

Charmeuse - this type of silk has a wonderful shine and usually a medium weight good feel. This fabric also has some elastic quality make it perfect for closer fitting silk wedding dress styles.

Crape de Chine - Matte and pebbled texture this silk creates a reflective surface that gives the fabric a shimmer all it's own. This is also one of the more durable silks and doesn't wrinkle easily. A light weight fabric that drapes easily this is a perfect silk for a silk wedding dress.

Dupioni- This shimmering luscious silk is woven from two different types of cocoons which have nestled into each other. this tangle of thread creates a multi toned shimmer to the fabric. It easily takes dyes so is perfect for a silk wedding dress in a shade other than white. It is usually produced in light to medium weights and has a slightly crisp drape rather than a soft flowing drape.

Filament silk - this knit fabric is light weight and strong it makes for a great slip style silk wedding dress or it works great as the under dress to a more complex design like a sheath dress under layers of chiffon or tulle.

It doesn't matter what type of fabric you choose for your silk wedding dress, you are sure to definitely keep al eye on you. Silk is a fabric that comes in many times, the above only named a few. If there is a design or feel you want from the light weight sheer gauze of chiffon to the heavier twills, you will find it in silk. There are a few words of caution with silk. Raw silk is usually very dull, and attracts all sort of unpleasant things like dirt and odors and should be avoided when picking out fabric types for your silk wedding dress.

consider your design if you are using silk there are certain designs that look better with certain types of silk fabric. The second thing you should consider is the time of year, you will be having your wedding. Choose the silk for your gown with this in mind since picking heavier silk for summer may leave you uncomfortable. The same goes for picking a light weight silk in winter, though silk is a tighter weave fabric and can be quite warm it might not be enough to keep you comfortable in winter time. If you want a color other than white or cream consider one of the easier to dye silk types for your wedding dress. Keep these tips and information in mind when choosing your silk wedding dress to ensure you get the perfect dress.
