Buying a Wedding Dress That Has Been to a Wedding

When you think about your wedding day, you think about perfection. Most people start out with an idea of what they want, but then when the reality of price starts to set in, they scale down their wants dramatically. There are many ways to cut corners on your wedding day, and there are many reasons that you should cut some corners on your special day. Your wedding day is only one day of your life, and it usually is not for twenty-four hours unless you are South American.

You can save money on your wedding and be able to put money down on things that may make a difference in your future like a house, or getting rid of your existing debt. One of the things that people spend the most on, that seem to be the most frivolous is the wedding dress itself. There is another option if you want to save some money on your wedding dress.

The thought of used clothing to some seems almost repulsive. Many people shudder at the thought of wearing something that another person has worn. However, when you are talking about wearing, or buying, a used wedding dress you have to take the term with a grain of salt. Used wedding dresses cannot really be considered used like other clothing. The truth is that someone else has only worn the dress once, and isn’t it better to let someone else benefit from the dress instead of having it sit in a closet forever.

Now, you may want to save your wedding dress for a child of yours to wear at some point, but in truth the chances that your wedding dress will still be in style when your offspring gets married is a slim chance. Wedding dresses can cost into the thousands depending on what you are looking for, so why not save some money and buy one that has only been worn once?

The trick is finding a used wedding dress that is worth buying. If you can find a store in your area that will probably be the best place to look. There are some things that you should consider when you shop for used clothing. One thing that is important is to look thoroughly over the entire garment. You need to make sure that the material is not stiff or so old that it has started to crack. You should also be on the lookout for things like stains that will be tough to remove. If a wedding dress has been properly cared for, there shouldn’t be any reason for discoloration or stains of any kind. There are small things that could be wrong with a used wedding dress, but that are not as big of a deal as you may think.

If there is a sequin or beading that is missing, they can probably be easily replaced. If the hem of the dress is coming apart a bit, you can have a seamstress fix it for little cost. Make sure that you are looking at the big things and not concentrating hard on the smaller infractions. However, things like missing buttons can be a problem and this should not be considered a little issue. Many wedding dresses have unique buttons and they cannot be found anywhere but on the dress itself. Ask the person that is selling the dress if they have a replacement button, or if they can provide enough buttons to replace all of the ones on the dress. If you are buying from a store that deals in many wedding dresses you will have a better chance of finding what you need as opposed to buying from an individual.

If you decide to buy from a place on the Internet such as eBay, make sure to be careful about whom you are buying from. If the seller is not a power seller, or if they do not have a high rating, you should pass on buying a wedding dress from them.

The problem with the Internet is that you can only see the dress through pictures and you are not able to try it on, feel it, or inspect it the way that you may want. You could find someone on eBay who is selling their dress near you and offer to meet somewhere in the middle so that you may look at the dress in person.

If you think that you have found something good for you, make sure to buy the dress in a much larger size than you are. Wedding dresses are notorious for being smaller than the sizes in department stores, and you can always have a seamstress alter the dress to your body if you want. You will have to start from scratch if you buy a dress that doesn’t fit, and unfortunately with used wedding dresses, all sales are final. Try not to get stuck with something that doesn’t fit or that you are unhappy with.
