Different Fabrics, Different Feels for Your Wedding Dress

For a bride what you wear on your wedding day can be just as important as the wedding itself. You want a wedding dress fabric that makes you feel incredibly special and beautiful at the same time it fits for the season. No one particular wedding dress fabric is the wedding dress fabric. Wedding dresses can be anything you decide to wear on your wedding day. So any fabric can be a wedding dress fabric. Some of the wedding dress fabrics include cotton, taffeta, satin, chiffon, velvet, organza, peau de soie, and lace.

Cotton - Depending on the weave of the cotton, it can be made into anything from a light weight casual to heavier more formal wedding dress fabric.

Light weight cotton - If you are looking for a wedding dress fabric for summer a light weight cotton is ideal. Having a casual wedding or a tropical theme light weight cotton is perfect. This wedding dress fabric is excellent for summer time weddings as well.

Egyptian cotton - This cotton has a heavier weave, is smoother and softer to the touch. It works well for casual summer or outdoor summer weddings when you don't want to feel uncomfortable but still want to wear something a little more formal than a light weight cotton.

Sateen - heavier finer weave this form of cotton has a slight sheen to it making it perfect as a wedding dress fabric again for more casual toned weddings. Because of it's heavier weave sateen can be quite warm so perhaps would be a casual wedding dress fabric suited for mid to late fall, or early spring when there is still a bit of chill in the air. It probably should be avoided for warm climates as the heavy weave makes the fabric less breathable, especially if you are having an outdoor wedding. Nothing spoils a mood more than being hot and uncomfortable on your wedding day.

Cottons make great lighter weighed more casual wedding dress fabrics. Perfect for those who are looking for a less traditional wedding dress fabric.

Taffeta is a crisp, smooth, fabric that contains a slight sheen to it. It's usually made of other fabric types such as silk, rayon or nylon. Depending on what it's made of this wedding dress fabric can be suitable for any season. One word of warning though, Taffeta tend to wrinkle fairly easily so movement and sitting should be done with care when wearing a taffeta wedding dress. This does not detract from it's beauty as a wedding dress fabric.

Satin - This is a more traditional wedding dress fabric.Originally created from silk this wedding dress fabric is now made of a variety of fabric materials including man made. It has a smooth shiny surface and usually a dull surface on the other side. It can have almost a glossy appearance. Satin comes in a variety of weights so it can be suitable for any season choose a lighter weight for summer, medium weight for spring and fall and a heavier fuller weight for winter months. It is prone to snagging so be sure to be careful with this wedding dress fabric.

Chiffon -  This is another excellent wedding dress fabric. Usually used as an overlay, it provides an airy quality to a dress. Chiffon is a lightweight, mesh style fabric so it needs to be treated with care. It rips easily so if you're using it as your wedding dress fabric or as an overlay to for example a sheath type wedding dress be sure to keep this in mind. It is currently produced out of polyester but more expensive and higher quality is made out of the original silk. Because of it's light weight nature chiffon makes a great summer wedding dress fabric.

Velvet - A more suitable winter wedding dress fabric, velvet is made like many luxury fabrics out of silk. Though you can find it in other basic fabric types.  Velvet is created through a smooth pile style of weaving. It's two sided a soft side and a smooth side. The smooth side shows the pile so is considered to be the wrong side of the fabric however, it can give a nice two toned effect. Velvet is also an excellent fabric for patterns and embossing.

No matter what wedding dress fabric you look at or pick for your wedding dress. There are a variety of fabrics and types to choose from. Be sure when choosing your wedding dress fabric that you consider the season you are having your wedding in. Also consider the comfort and durability of the fabric there are many fabrics that are used for wedding dresses. No matter what type of wedding dress fabric you choose you want to be sure you will be comfortable wearing it.
