Bring in that “Something Blue” to your Wedding

It all starts with a meeting, falling in love, and eventually a ring. Getting married is one of the most important events in a couple’s life that they will remember forever as being a beautiful time where they shared their love with friends and family, and vowed to be together forever. This special day is one that takes months of planning so that every last aspect is covered. One such important aspect is the wedding flowers. Many brides choose roses and pinks for their bouquet, but a unique idea is to have blue wedding flowers.

This will bring in the element of;
“something borrowed, something blue” and will add a cool, breezy feeling to the day. Blue wedding flowers are not the first thing you think of when deciding on which flowers you would like to have for your bride’s maids, for your bouquet, for the pews in the church (or outside), and the tables at the reception, but if you do some looking around, you can get very romantic looking blue wedding flowers like Delphiniums, Monkshood, Morning Glory, Sweet Pea, Flax, Columbine, Lupine, Juniper, Berries, Plumbago, Butterfly bush, and Hibiscus. Some of these are also slightly purple in coloring which adds a touch of warmth in a bouquet.

The blue wedding flowers can be enhanced by adding silver to it in the form of ribbons, sprayed vines or leaves, and vases.

The arrangement can look more delicate and subtle by bringing in creamy, yellow shades along with the blue wedding flowers. It will lift it, creating a soft and summery look. The blue wedding flowers can also vary in depth in color from very pale, powder blue, to the rich violet color. All of the colors can be used together in one bouquet for a full, more 3 dimensional effect.

Adding greenery like ivy and ferns to the more delicate blue wedding flowers will give the perfect look for a themed medieval wedding, or a country wedding. The ivy can be arranged to hang down off the tables, with the darker blue wedding flowers delicately set in amongst it. This can also follow through to the bridal bouquet, with a longer, hanging arrangement. The bride’s maids could have small bunches of pale blue wedding flowers so that the look is not overdone.

Blue is the symbol of trust and unity, which makes this choice of flower for a wedding very fitting. Another way of bringing in the blue wedding flowers besides in the bridal bouquets and reception flower is for the groomsmen’s button holes and in the bride’s hair. If the grooms have a grey or black suit or even a beige suit, the blue will be a charming addition. The bride can also bring in the color with her hair style. A white dress can be complemented with some pretty little blue flowers, and can also be made to match the garter. A different idea, that will be lovely for a less formal country wedding, is to have the garter also made from a string of dainty, blue flowers the same as the ones in her hair.

Blue is one of the hardest colors to match, so make sure that when you are shopping for a blue themed wedding that you always have samples of any fabric, flowers, or ribbons handy. Blue is elegant and sophisticated and both men and women love the color, so it is also good for those men who do not want to be stuck on their special day wearing bright pink. Blue wedding flowers can also be used for the flowers girls in the church. You can get tiny blue flowers that are sweet and not too overbearing. They also look pretty in the photographs when being thrown at the newly married couple. Sometimes roses, even just the petals, can be too big, and they are too expensive to be simply thrown away and stood on. This is why small blue flowers are subtle, inexpensive, yet look stunning in photographs.

One other way to cut costs for your wedding is to also find flowers growing naturally somewhere. Ask a neighbor or friend who has a pretty garden if you can pick some blue wedding flowers for your bouquets, the hair, or for the men’s jackets. Then your florist will only need to focus on the major wedding flowers and decorative features.

This is just a taste of what you can do with blue wedding flowers, and you should flip through some magazines to get an idea of some other ones. Your imagination when it comes to your special day can be limitless, so don’t think that you should stick to the traditional bridal bouquets and styles. The more unique your wedding is to you, will also leave a lasting impression in your mind. You must remember that in 30, 40 or 60 years from now you will look back at the photographs and you won’t want to wish you had done something differently. Do it your way, so if you want blue wedding flowers mixed with copper sprayed twigs, leaves, and grasses then go for it.
