Church Wedding Flowers – Fragrance of Love and Affection

A flower also referred to as a bloom or blossom is one which everybody likes because of its beauty and fragrance. Flowers are used around the world for a wide variety of events and functions from new births and christenings to Weddings and bon voyage parties. Each flower has specific meaning marking any occasion or just conveying a message.

Flowers found their place to convey messages right from the 17th century, when Turkey secret messages were conveyed by sending flowers with each one having a special meaning. In 1700s, this Turkish way of using flowers entered into Europe. Symbolically arranged or coded bouquets are used to communicate feelings of attraction, love and affection. It has become a tradition to have floral decorations in weddings.

In Church Weddings, the most obvious flowers of the day are generally carried by the Bride and Bridesmaids. Apart from these main flowers, buttonhole flowers are used by men including the Father of the bride and page boys. These buttonhole flowers always match with those of the bouquets and should always be pointing upwards. Corsages are for the Mothers of the couple and the colors of the corsage flowers should go with their dress selections. There are flower girls who carry flower baskets or bouquets or scatter petals, with the choice of flowers reflecting the creativity of the bride.

The Flowers for wedding are carefully chosen to reveal the bride and groom’s tastes and choices that harmonize with already existing colors of the wedding. The shape of the flowers is also vital to reflect expression and to draw everybody’s attention. Traditionally, in the past only white flowers are used in weddings for the bride’s bouquet as a mark of her purity.

Though white flowers are still popular, modern day brides want to experiment with colors to keep the occasion a memorable one for them. Some Brides would like to go a little bit further in deciding the flowers for their wedding bouquet by considering the meanings of the flowers. Over the centuries, certain flowers have acquired specific meanings to convey like the following:
• Apple Blossom – Hope
• Daisy - Innocence
• Heather – Good Luck
• Forget-me-not – Remembrance
• Myrtle – Love
• Rose – Love and Happiness
• Tulip – Love
• Tulip-red – I Love You

It is always essential to consult or employ a florist for floral decorations of the Church and for the choice of Church Wedding Flowers. Most of the floral decorations are done a day before when the concerned wedding families are the busiest. Hence it is wise to approach a professional florist for help.
Before approaching the Florist, it is better to decide wedding outfit or the venue for wedding.  This could give a better idea on the style and color scheme of flowers that is perfect for the outfit.

For Church weddings, it is better to discuss the decoration of the Church with the Minister during the first meeting to get information about the Church’s policies. Some churches do not allow flowers to be brought in while some supply their own flowers for floral arrangements. Others may allow the wedding couple to supply the flowers.

Usually many churches have regular church helpers who arrange the floral displays and decorate the wedding flowers for display as a contribution to the church funds. They can bring out the most effective flowers display as they are familiar with the church. This would be of great help for amateur florists working in a hectic phase. Alternatively external florists can also arrange the displays. It is also important to decide the locations for the wedding flowers in the church. Some popular locations include the Entrance, Lych-gate, Pew Ends, Isle Ends, Pulpit, Columns, Window ledges, Alter steps, Alter and Chancel.

When several weddings are hosted by the church on the same day, you will not have time to change the flower arrangements. In such cases, the church itself takes the responsibility of arranging the wedding flowers using the church flower arrangers and the cost is divided amongst the couples getting wedded the same day. In these cases, preliminary discussions with those floral arrangers are a must to make the wedding flowers display, a memorable one. If the wedding couple have unique ideas about arranging the Church Wedding flowers, then it may be better for them to change their wedding date to another day, when only their wedding will be taking place in the church.

Some brides go for extra touches like drying all the flowers exchanged between the couple during courtship and engagement and the dried petals are put in the flower girl’s basket or bouquet, to give a romantic or sentimental value addition for the day. Some even like to add two extra flowers to their bouquet, to give one to her mother as she walks down the Aisle and another to her mother-in-law while returning down the aisle.

Sky is the limit for the choice of flowers to make your wedding a memorable one. Lots of online florists are also available to help you reveal your sense of love and affection through the choice of wedding flowers.
