Go Back into Time with Victorian Wedding Flowers

The day has come, it is a dream come true to know that you are about to tie the knot with the person you have always wanted to spend the rest of your life with since the day you met.

Before the particular time comes when you have to say, ‘I do’, the planning process gets underway. You have to organist he event organizer, the wedding dress, the caterers, not to mention the flowers. It is not a bad thing that every person wants their special day to be just that – special, and there is nothing wrong with wanting the freshest flowers on your wedding day.

If you are planning to have a traditional Victorian wedding with the massive chandeliers and matching dress, then it will be fitting that you get special Victorian wedding flowers, because you want your day to be memorable and enchanting for the rest of your life.

Beautiful Victorian bouquets can be used to decorate the pews inside the chapel, and the also the altar and will make the perfect setting if you are planning an outside wedding, the Victorian wedding flowers will look equally stunning at the wedding reception on the tables, as chair decorations and to decorate the wedding cake. With the splendor of the exotic flower arrangements you will be assured that the guests attending this once in a lifetime event are going to be enthralled. It is the scents of the intoxicating beauty of the mixed flowers, tropical flowers, gardenias, roses and stargazer lilies that is remembered long after the wedding, well apart from the pictures that is.

Brides have always worn some sort of headdress in the Victorian times, bridal traditions include wearing a wreath, a circlet or even a coronet of flowers, which will be the most consistent in representing that specific time. Victorian flowers and even herbs famous in the time were sentimental; two of these evergreen herbs being myrtle and rosemary were very well-known in those times, especially for their lasting fragrances. Roses fit any wedding occasion. If you are adding roses to your list for Victorian wedding flowers, select them for their beauty – but also know that they were the flower of Venus, who was the Goddess of Love.

Before flowers were brought onto the scene, Victorian brides carried garlic as they walked down the aisle. This they used to ward off any evil spirits, however, smelly garlic was later replaced by lovely fragrant flowers. There were the favorites such as ivy which meant fidelity, lilies which meant purity and roses which meant love. Research says that today’s brides who want a Victorian wedding are selecting white roses for their special day. Apart from the white roses brides looking for Victoria wedding flowers also use the calla lily, which is a biblical flower that represents the Virgin Mary and is fitting with a white dress, which also represents purity.

In the Victorian era, orange blossoms and roses were also often used. The bride had the option of carrying a hand-tied bouquet or a splendid gold tussie-mussie. To match the tussie-mussie or the hand-tied bouquet, the bridesmaids’ could carry an alluring lace fan decorated with tiny roses. The flower girl can then sprinkle the rose petals from a gold basket. The tables could be decorated with simple pearls and crystal bowls. The only limit to you creativity is you; you could go browsing through a Victorian magazine and looking at a few simple pictures or some ideas or you could even take a look at the internet.

A beautiful green garden will compliment the occasion wonderfully, if you are planning an outside wedding. Then the Victorian wedding flowers could be used to make up the aisle that the bride will be walking down, this proves to be a splendid idea as it looks lovely and gives that perfect Victorian theme.

There are many different Victorian bouquets to choose from, they come in different colors, shapes and styles and all you have to do is choose the ones that will best suit your needs. If you do not want real Victorian wedding flowers, you can purchase silk ones.  This is a good idea because they look exactly the same as the real thing and they are more cost effective due to the fact that they will not have to be thrown away after the ceremony and they may be used over and over again for any occasion. Also, they are better to use because some people have allergic reactions to certain flowers that they don’t even know about and that would not make a bride happy! The silk Victorian wedding flowers can last for years if you just look after them. They look great because they will give that soft and silky look that will definitely compliment your dress. It would also look wonderful if there were a few petals from these silk flowers scattered on the ground (beware of slipping hazards, though) when the bride walks down the aisle.
