Wedding Flower Arrangements

Flowers have been an item of wedding décor for as long as anyone can remember.  No wedding is complete without them.  There is a wide variety of flowers to choose from; flowers of every shape, every size, and every color.  It can be difficult to know which flower to choose, which flower goes where and whether to use a florist or make your own arrangements.  What’s the “right” answer? This is a question no one can answer for you.  What works for you will be based on your style of wedding, your personality and your overall feeling about flowers.

Perhaps you are somewhat old fashioned and prefer a more traditional type of wedding.  You may want to consider using roses or tulips.  These flowers, which are often used to symbolize love, have been used in weddings for centuries.  Both, of which come in a variety of colors, can be used in every aspect of the floral arrangements.  Bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, hairpieces, and the like, can all be made from roses, or tulips, or both within the same arrangement.  Tulips come in a larger variety than roses, and therefore can be found in more shapes, sizes, and colors.  Rose-like tulips can also be found, and unlike roses, they come without thorns.  Roses, and tulips alike, can be found in just about any floral shop, and can certainly be found by any professional floral arranger.

If you are the type of bride who prefers things with a little more flare, you should consider lilies, specifically Peruvian lilies, or Stargazer lilies.  Both lilies are beautiful, exotic looking flowers which are far from boring or ordinary.  The Peruvian lilies, also known as alstroemeria, come in a variety of colors and can be bought to match many different shades of dresses.  Each hue of Peruvian lily comes with speckled petals which only add to their loveliness.  The Stargazer lilies have petals which are a rich pink, framed in white.  The simplicity of the color scheme of Stargazer lilies are made up for by their wonderfully sweet fragrance and their star-like shape.   Both of these lilies are flowers that are sure to get you and your floral arrangements noticed.

If you prefer bright flowers which are guaranteed to provoke a feeling of cheer, these are the two which immediately come to mind.  The Sunflower, which seem to say “look at me and smile,” and the Gerbera daisies both have a mood enhancing effect.  Sunflowers can be bought in a variety of sizes and have bright yellow petals which give them a sunny look.  The Gerbera daisy can be bought in a variety of colors and have large blossoms and can be bought in a normal or miniature size.  In whatever combination you choose to purchase these flowers, they are sure to give you and your guests a gleeful bounce to your steps.

After you’ve settled on a type of flower, you’ll have to decide on a shape for your bouquet.  There are several popular styles to choose from, each of which has attractive qualities.

The round shaped bouquet is formed by taking one stem, using it as a center point and arranging other stems around it to form a round shape with the blossoms.  A round bouquet is simple, yet elegant and works well with almost any style of wedding.

The nosegay (also called a tussie mussie), is similar to the round bouquet, except that it does not have a central focal point.  It is a style of arrangement that is designed so that it can be viewed from any side and each side looks just as beautiful as the next.  Nosegays can be made to look basic or sophisticated and therefore can be made to suit anyone’s taste.

The Biedermeier arrangement is created by taking multiple colors of flowers and arranging them so that each color contains one type of flower and forms a distinct pattern.  The Biedermeier can be a gorgeous array, but is flamboyant and is definitely not meant for a shy bride.  This design is definitely meant to make an individual stand out.

A cascade bouquet is one that has a teardrop shape.  The cascade design is quite an eye catcher and can be used to enhance the bridal attire.  Cascade bouquets can be difficult to arrange and for the best affect should be left up to a professional floral arranger.

Hand-tied bouquets are easy to arrange and are the best type of arrangement to try on your own.  These bouquets are created by gathering the flowers together with the greenery being included and wrapping the stems together.  The bouquet can be made more elaborate through the use of ribbons, bows, and other decorations.

For the most unique style of bouquet, a contemporary bouquet would be your best bet.  Contemporary bouquets are made using the specifications provided by the individual bride.  The bride chooses the types of flowers, the colors of the flowers, and even chooses the layout of the design.  This design is perfect for weddings with themes or for the bride who merely wants things her way.  In any case, with a contemporary bouquet, you are the master designer.

As a bride, making your wedding appealing is constantly at the forefront of your mind.  The use of flowers is a great way to make your ceremony more inviting.  Whether you are pleasing the eye of the customary or more modern crowd, there is no more universal way than to do it with flowers.
