One of the most beautiful simple summer flowers is the understated daisy, and if you have chosen the daisy wedding theme then why not make it a simplistic one as well. You can create such a stunning look with the minimal effort.

Your wedding invitations should be kept simple, maybe just the bride and grooms initials in silver with the actual card in a pastel green. And a small daisy seal on the back of the envelope would add a nice touch.

Tell all your guests the theme that you have chosen and ask them to make your day special by attending in costume if at all possible.

 For a start you arrange to have the wedding take place in a clearing in a wood surrounded by family and friends in medieval costume, they can be knights or peasants, ladies in waiting or queens. You of course will be Maid Marian and your groom Robin Hood, his friends can be his merry men, and yours can be your handmaids. If you really lucky one may dress as friar tuck and you have to have both the sheriff of Nottingham and king Richard to make it totally authentic. That could be the best man and the usher.

Your dress should be very simple perhaps trimmed with a thin edging of fur; the long medieval sleeves could also have a small trim. It could have gold threads running through the material, which would just give a tinge of opulence. You would have a daisy chain as a headdress and the same for the bridesmaids that could be dressed in shades of pale lemon and cream. And carrying baskets of daisies.

An open-air reception of hot and cold meats and all medieval fayre. Laid out on long trestle tables, instead of table clothes have the table covered in leaves, and a nice glass of mead to start the celebration would be a nice authentic touch. For the children you could even provide a maypole, which will add to the feeling and also give the children something nice to do.

The cake should be simple too with a posy of daisies on top and small flowers to decorate the various tiers.

After the eating is finished you could have a couple of the men have mock sword fights, archery contests, and of course a jester and minstrel in attendance, and then let the dancing begin. This should bring your day to a wonderful end and as the sun sets you can ride sidesaddle away into the sunset.

As a thank you to your guests give each lady a silk daisy chain as a memento of the special day you have all shared.

Or perhaps another idea would be to have a simple registry office service but you could still have the bridesmaids dressed in lemon with daisies in their hair. The bride could wear a deeper lemon or white and carry a large daisy posy.

The reception may be at home if finances are a bit tight, so you decorate the table with vases of summer flowers and make sure they have a few daisies’ that will keep your theme going. The cake could have a daisy as its centrepiece iced on top.

It is not always the case that to have a theme for your wedding it has to cost the earth a little thought and you can still theme it, as you want to on a shoestring budget. It will still be beautiful and will give you a day to remember just as much as if it had cost a great deal more.

You could theme it to get married on a riverboat and use the daisy chain to decorate the boat, keeping the colours of cream white and lemon with a dash of green would be a nice contrast.

However you decide to arrange your daisy wedding, in a field, the forest at home or on the river, it is your theme and the day will be one that you can treasure. Take a couple of daisy’s and press them and you have a lasting keepsake that you can treasure through the years.

If you wanted a more wacky wedding theme you could all dress as daisy’s with dresses made like petals, and little mob caps on your head with a daisy chain going round the brim. And as something different you could carry hoops with small flowers entwined round the hoop.

The receptions food could be served on daisy plates, with glasses stencilled with daisies as well, even the sandwiches can be cut into flower shapes if you wanted. As for the cake it could be made in the shape of a flower and this would complete the theme. And wacky or not you will carry the memory in your dreams.
